The Arts Council, in partnership with the National Concert Hall, will be presenting Tending the Flame, a seminar on traditional music and song collectors as part of the Tradition Now programme this September.
The seminar will explore the work of the collectors and how traditional music remains an important cultural expression within American and Northern European musical traditions. Speaking at the seminar will be:
Dr Nancy Groce – Folklife Specialist, Library of Congress.
Grace Toland – Director of the Irish Traditional Music Archive.
Dr Jeff Place – Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, The Smithsonian Institution.
Dr Conor Caldwell & Danny Diamond – ‘The Long Road to Glenties’, a presentation and discussion on recently discovered archive film footage of legendary Donegal fiddler John Doherty and folk musician and collector Pete Seeger.
In the evening there will be a tribute to the music and life of Pete Seeger featuring some of the finest traditional, folk and contemporary musicians and singers from Ireland, Britain and the US
